MOROCCO BOUND

A Solo Motorcycle Journey to North Africa

(Forward to my journey to North Africa))

Welcome.  This is very close to the verbatim diary I kept on this journey.  I’ve tried to be true to it because I’ve found that revisionist writing after the fact often reflects misplaced memories.  That is why I try so hard to update my journal at the end of each day.  With new experiences and memories being made minute by minute while on the road, it is almost impossible to separate them at a later date.  Besides, a daily journal captures the emotions as they have happen, whether good or bad.

That is why I love to travel and write.  The tumult of emotions while on the road in strange countries is like an intoxicant to me.  No day is ever boring, and nothing ever really turns out as planned.  I don’t travel first class, and I don’t have an unlimited budget.  I’ve slept in fields, on the ground in an oasis in the Sahara, on little tramp ferries, and in many, many guest rooms of people’s homes.  I’ve gone days without a roof over my head, or bathroom facilities, and I’ve learned to do my wash in sinks whenever I can.  I’ve eaten as the people in the countries I’ve been traveling in, which often times is not a lot.  But rarely have I ever had a day that I didn’t appreciate the fact that I was there, doing exactly what I was doing, and loving every minute of it.

I hope you will enjoy this ride as much as I did.
